Things to do on holiday to York

Those on holiday to York will find no shortage of things to do. There are fabulous restaurants, shopping and the nightlife is active as well. Consider taking a river cruise as a way to get an overview of the history of the city. These guided tours take less than two hours and a knowledgeable guide will be able to answer any questions you might have. Most evenings there are ghost walks. You will be led on a walk throughout the city by a guide who will share some of the most well-known of the areas ghost stories. This walk is not very scary and is appropriate for most family members.

Places to visit on holiday to York

There are plenty of attractions in York that will interest every member of the family. JORVIK Viking Centre is a must see for anyone who has even a slight interest in history or in how people lived in times past. This is a recreation of York in the 10th century. Visitors will feel as though they have stepped back in time whilst surrounded by the sights and sounds that would have been common 1000 years ago. The York Castle Museum is another attraction that allows a view of the past. The museum staff has assembled thousands of items that would have been used in everyday life. Rooms have been recreated and visitors even get a glimpse of a prison cell. The adults in your group may consider a visit to the York Dungeon. This is not an appropriate attraction for children as the exhibits and live shows are quite gruesome. For a tamer way to spend an afternoon, there are plenty of art galleries including the York City Art Gallery where hundreds of paintings are on display. There are also attractions that were designed with children in mind. The York Maze is a giant corn maze, but there are also other features to this fun play park as well. Amongst the most popular are a climbing area and a gigantic “jumping pillow”. Waterworld is a perfect choice for hot summer days. The whole family can enjoy a variety of slides, flumes pools and other water rides.
