Visitors will feel as though they have stepped back in time whilst surrounded by the sights and sounds that would have been common 1000 years ago. The York Castle Museum is another attraction that allows a view of the past. The museum staff has assembled thousands of items that would have been used in everyday life. Rooms have been recreated and visitors even get a glimpse of a prison cell. The adults in your group may consider a visit to the York Dungeon. This is not an appropriate attraction for children as the exhibits and live shows are quite gruesome.For a tamer way to spend an afternoon, there are plenty of art galleries including the York City Art Gallery where hundreds of paintings are on display. There are also attractions that were designed with children in mind. The York Maze is a giant corn maze, but there are also other features to this fun play park as well. Amongst the most popular are a climbing area and a gigantic “jumping pillow”. Waterworld is a perfect choice for hot summer days. The whole family can enjoy a variety of slides, flumes pools and other water rides.

The weather in York is milder in both temperatures and the amount of rainfall. The summer does not bring extreme temperatures and the average in July and August, the hottest months, is about 15 degrees. Whilst it may snow a couple of times each year, most of time the winter temperatures do not dip below freezing. The average temperature is between 1 and 5 degrees. Rainfall is pretty steady throughout the year with about 55 mm falling each month.
