Located in the North East of England, this is a beautiful area of the UK with traditional market towns and quaint villages mixed in with modern city life. South Yorkshire offers some fantastic trails for hikers, cyclists and horse riders that give visitors great views of the wonderful countryside and waterways. Visitors here will also find numerous places to try some fishing with an example being Dam Flask Reservoir, which is a huge body of water covering over 100 acres. There are several golf courses within this part of Yorkshire, including Silkstone Golf Club in Barnsley and Beauchief Golf Club in Sheffield.

Sheffield Ski Village offers dry slope skiing and boarding, while visitors can also try ten-pin bowling. Paintballing and laser shooting are also popular pursuits and South Yorkshire boasts the largest venue in Europe. There are several leisure centres in the area including one in Sheffield with an excellent pool featuring a wave machine and slides.

Visitors coming here on a self catering holiday may like to take a break from cooking for themselves and dine out. There are many pretty little villages in South Yorkshire with small cafes, tea shops and public houses as well as quaint shops selling local produce and crafts. The larger towns and cities such as Sheffield, Doncaster, Barnsley and Rotherham have a larger choice of shops including the larger well known high street stores.

There are many interesting places to visit in South Yorkshire such as museums and galleries with Aeroventure in Doncaster and the South Yorkshire Transport Museum near Rotherham highly recommended. Many historic buildings adorn this part of England too such as Conisbrough Castle, Roche Abbey and Chatsworth House in neighbouring Derbyshire.

Numerous parks, gardens and areas of natural beauty are well worth visiting in South Yorkshire including the Botanical Gardens in Sheffield. Football fans are spoilt for choice in this part of England should they visit during the season, as there are two football league clubs in Sheffield as well as one each in Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham.

The warmest time of the year to visit South Yorkshire is generally July and August when the average high is approximately 20 to 21 degrees centigrade. The driest months of the year tend to be May and July while December and January is the wettest time of the year with between 75mm average rainfall per month.

Robin Hood Doncaster Sheffield International Airport is less than 10 miles from the centre of Doncaster and 25 miles from Sheffield. It is served by over 40 European and long haul destinations as well as domestic flights from Jersey and Belfast. Mainline stations in Sheffield and Doncaster provide fast direct links to Scotland, London and regional towns, while the Eurostar link from Paris brings passengers to the area in approximately five hours. Motorway links include the M1, M62 and A1(M), which meet in Yorkshire South. Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster.
